These 10 Brutal Truths About Life Will Help You Get Your Shit Together!

Posted by Two Spirits, One Soul.

Many people easily get annoyed at the fairy tale-like stories, which typically go like this:

  • I had a dream.
  • So then I achieved it!
  • And here I am now giving you advice.

However, the truth is that we always have a lot more to learn, despite the fact that life seems much harder thanks to such stories.

So, here are 10 brutal truths about life which media will not tell us:

1. Without goals, life is pointless

Without goals and working towards something, life is pointless as you are living without any direction. Goals help us distinguish between important and trivial matters, which in turn helps us focus on the present moment and enjoy life to the fullest.

2. What other people think about you really doesn’t matter

Most people can relate to this point. However, we need to realize the others` opinion about us is not only unimportant, but detrimental to our health too. Being dependent on others is not healthy as when others stop saying positive words about us, we feel devalued and even depressed.

3. We don’t have much control

Many people often feel anxious thanks to their preference to have a complete control over everything in their lives. However, the truth is that we don’t have much control over many things, whether it is something as trivial as hair growth which works on its own or some rumor being spread about us.

We need to accept the fact that some things are simply beyond our control, and once we get to terms with this, we will feel happier and more content.

4. Failure is the road to success

Failure is an inevitable part of our lives as virtually nobody lives a life full of success only. But, the truth is that failure often gives us the best and most valuable lessons in life, paving the way towards success.

5. A person isn’t defined by what they own

Expensive clothes, branded bags, cars that cost a little fortune… While all of these things seem cool in early adulthood, they don’t add any value to you as a person. Stop focusing on these things and concentrate on building healthy relationships instead.

6. Thinking vs doing is not the same

There is a huge difference between thinking and doing, as daydreaming without taking any action is condemned to failure. Success doesn’t come on its own, so pull yourself together and start doing what you have been thinking about.

7. Change is the only law in life you can count on

Instead of accepting the fact that life goes on, learn to appreciate change and grasp the good moments while you still can.

8. Everyone you know will eventually die

It is important to come to terms with the fact that everyone you know will eventually die so that you can get the most of your relationships and appreciate them at the present moment.

9. Worrying is useless

“Worrying does not accomplish anything. Even if you worry twenty times more, it will not change the situation of the world. In fact, your anxiety will only make things worse. Even though things are not as we would like, we can still be content, knowing we are trying our best and will continue to do so. If we don’t know how to breathe, smile, and live every moment of our life deeply, we will never be able to help anyone. I am happy in the present moment. I do not ask for anything else. I do not expect any additional happiness or conditions that will bring about more happiness. The most important practice is aimlessness, not running after things, not grasping.” – Thich Nhat Hanh, a Buddhist master.

10. The root of suffering is pursuing temporary feelings

Stop craving feelings of excitement, euphoria, and joy, as these feelings are temporary and bring disappointment and suffering when they are done.
